Scott Weiland's Former Stone Temple Pilots Bandmates Pay Him a Moving Musical Tribute
Remaining Stone Temple Pilots members Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz have released a video honoring the band's former singer Scott Weiland, revisiting one of Weiland's most powerful vocal performances.
In the seven minute video released Monday (Dec. 21) the three bandmates sit at a mixing board, listening to "Atlanta" off the band's 1999 album No. 4, discussing their recording the track together and allowing themselves to be absorbed in the music. At one point, all backing composition is dropped out except the acoustic guitar, highlighting Weiland's beautiful, resounding voice.
"Recently the three of us sat down together to share our memories of Scott and take a moment to reflect on the amazing times we shared," the band said in a statement. "We put the master up of a song called Atlanta from the No. 4 record that we feel really highlights the true brilliance of Scott. We would like to share it with you.
"Together let’s honor Scott…Memories of Candles and Incense. Having the opportunity to listen to these tracks individually reveal the beauty of Scott’s lyrical and melodic gift. This is one of the many musical moments we shared together. It is in this way we would like to remember Scott."
Weiland was fired from Stone Temple Pilots in 2013, while the DeLeo brothers and Kretz continued to perform under the band's name.
