Justin Timberlake has grown into a true artist and multi-talented singer/songwriter. This album is more soulful than the previous, still working with Timbaland as the main producer, but elements of Motown and electronic funk are more prevalent. It does at times, feel like Timberlake is over-achieving as the ultimate modern pop star, but that kind of competition with oneself comes with the job. Many will remain skeptical as to what he is actually composing, and what is produced by his 'team', but the fact is, the guy has talent. Being pushed in every direction alongside those talents will lead to some innovative music. Of all the early bloomer pop stars, he is the most sincere and openminded musically. Well done J.T., you've danced your way into the league of superstars next to Michael Jackson and Prince. The more prolific you prove to be, the more acclaim you'll receive from all over the map.
I haven't heard this record. I came looking for an anti-pitchfork review for DM's Delta Machine because I am fed up with Pitchfork's blatant dislike for music and obsessive compulsion for pose. Your reviews are beautiful, they are not about what is wrong in the records but about what is right: the music. Thank you for this blog.
ReplyDeleteI'll give a listen to JT's new album. It's not my regular taste but you've sold me. Thanks again.
